Check the Security Company, Insurance and Assigned Guards

Verify the exact legal entity and PPO number in California’s DCA lookup, then request the current insurance certificate for that entity. Separately ask how the provider verifies each assigned guard’s registration, training and any assignment-specific permit.

Start with the proposal entity

Copy the legal business name, address and PPO number from the proposal. Do not rely only on a logo, URL or salesperson’s email domain. Ask which entity will sign, staff and invoice the agreement.

California defines a PPO around furnishing guards or patrol persons to protect people or property or prevent theft. That is the company-level record a Los Angeles contract-security buyer should identify.

Search the official California record

Open the DCA license search and search the legal name or PPO number. Compare the displayed status, address and identifying information with the proposal. Save a dated procurement note or screenshot under the buyer’s record policy.

A current result is one check, not an endorsement, performance rating or guarantee of availability.

Review the actual certificate of insurance

BSIS requires a PPO to maintain at least $1 million per occurrence in general liability insurance for continued licensure. Request the current certificate for the proposal entity and review carrier, policy number, dates and limits. Ask the appropriate insurance or procurement reviewer to address endorsements, exclusions and any additional contract requirements.

Do not treat a website statement or old sample certificate as the current project document.

Check the assigned guard separately

Ask how the provider verifies each assigned person’s current security guard registration before scheduling. Put the same requirement on replacements and relief guards. For armed work, identify and verify any additional permit required for the assigned person and duty.

The company PPO and insurance certificate do not establish every individual’s status.

Understand the training floor and the site gap

California law requires initial instruction, 32 hours of security-officer skills training within six months and eight hours of continuing training annually. Ask the bidder for its documentation process.

Then ask about property orientation, post-order review, report format, access systems and assignment-specific preparation. State requirements are the floor; the site’s duties still need their own launch plan.

Resolve names and subcontracting before award

Ask whether another company, affiliate or subcontractor may supply personnel. If so, identify who holds the PPO, employs the guards, carries insurance, supervises the post and invoices the buyer. Apply the same verification to every entity in the delivery chain.

Do not accept an unexplained mismatch between brand, contract, certificate and DCA record.

Record rechecks and change notice

Set the provider’s duty to notify the buyer about a license, insurance, ownership or material staffing change. Schedule proportionate rechecks during the contract. State how replacement certificates are delivered and who reviews them. Assign responsibility for the recheck calendar and any missed-date escalation. Keep the dated DCA result, certificate and any follow-up decision in the same procurement record.

Use the company comparison worksheet to record the result beside service and price. The cost guide keeps verification separate from the hours and rate model. When the assignment and verification fields are ready, Get a Quote.
